I swung by Kiehl’s Thursday night to check out a party to benefit the Newport Beach chapter of Surfrider Foundation.
The South Coast Plaza store was jammed with people sampling Kiehl’s skincare lines, sipping ocean blue drinks and eating cupcakes. Everything was 10 percent off and Kiehl’s donated 10 percent of net sales to Surfrider.
Ray Halowski, chair of the Newport Beach chapter, said this type of fundraiser is “a gift.”
“For us, all we had to do was show up,” said Halowski, wearing a “Save Trestles” T-shirt. “We suck at putting on our own events. We’re good at raising money. But putting on the actual event? We’re all volunteers. We just don’t have the horsepower to do it.”
Surfrider will use the money raised Thursday for education programs to promote clean water.
