November same-store sales flash report

November same-stores sales numbers were released this morning. Department stores appear to be the big winners. Retailers were positively impacted by a calendar shift that led to an extra week of sales in November. That means December results will be impacted negatively, however.

PACSUN

Same-store sales company-wide: up 2.3 percent


PacSun stores: up 7 percent


demo stores: down 30.6 percent


Regions: All regions comped positive except California, desert Southwest and Florida.

PACSUN

Same-store sales company-wide: up 2.3 percent

PacSun stores: up 7 percent

demo stores: down 30.6 percent

Regions: All regions comped positive except California, desert Southwest and Florida.

Thanksgiving weekend: Executives were “pleased” with results. Comps were up 7.9 percent for the weekend.

Juniors apparel: up low 20’s led by Bullhead denim and tops.

Guys apparel: up low double digits

Accessories: down mid teens

Juniors accessories: down low double digits

Guys accessories: down mid 20s

Footwear: down low double digits

Juniors footwear: down low 20s

Guys footwear: down high single digits

ZUMIEZ

Same store sales: up 5.6 percent

Comp gains led by: An increase in transactions

Best category: skate hardgoods

MACY’S

Same store sales: up 13.4 percent

Sales increase attributable to: cold weather, strong holiday offering, calendar shift.

Guidance for December: Same-store sales down 4 to 7 percent.

Guidance for Q4: Same-store sales down 2 percent to up 1 percent.

NORDSTROM

Same store sales: up 8.7 percent

Best categories: Designer goods, women’s shoes and women’s accessories.

Strongest regions: Midwest, South, Northeast

THE BUCKLE

Same-stores sales: up 18.2 percent

Mens: up 37 percent led by denim, wovens, sweaters.

Women’s: up 22.5 percent led by denim, knit, outerwear.

Accessories: flat

Footwear: down 3 percent

ABERCROMBIE & FITCH

Appears to be having trouble with its girls and women’s business. Female comps were down at every chain.

Same-stores sales company wide: up 2 percent

Abercrombie & Fitch stores: up 4 percent

Abercrombie stores: down 1 percent

Hollister stores: flat

Hollister guys: up low teens

Hollister girls: down mid-single digits.

Ruehl: down 12 percent.
