Huntington Beach, Calif. (December 15, 2010) — The Quiksilver All ’80s All Day Vert Challenge will host the first vert competition of the new year on Friday, January 7, during Surf Expo in Orlando, Florida. The invite-only guest list will feature legendary pro skaters from the ’80s, including Tony Hawk, Christian Hosoi, Kevin Staab, Jeff Grosso and many others, competing for the Vert Challenge Grand Prize of $1980.
“We are very excited to bring the Quiksilver All ’80s All Day Vert Challenge to Orlando,” said Mike Matey, Vice President of Marketing for Quiksilver. “Surf Expo has shown a great commitment to skateboarding, and we want to bring exhibitors and fans a fun throw-back day with some of the world’s best vert skaters.”
The day’s events will also feature a twist on the usual best trick jam session. For this special event, the announcers will pick ten tricks from the ’80s and the skaters will compete for prize money associated with each trick. The announcer will decide on his favorite version of the trick during the competition, including “best version,” “worst version,” “heaviest slam” and others. Fans can submit their favorite ’80s tricks for the jam session to ShredOrDie.com: https://www.shredordie.com/page/youpickthetricks-1.
The Quiksilver All ’80s All Day Vert Challenge will be held at the Orange County Convention Center, North Hall A, 9400 Universal Drive in Orlando, adjacent to Surf Expo. Admission to the competition is free and open to the public on a first come, first served basis. Parking at the Convention Center is $13.
