The Closet, once an influential industry account, has closed its last remaining store, its flagship location in Costa Mesa, according to Hagop Sargisian, an owner.

At one time The Closet operated stores in Huntington Beach, Santa Monica, the Irvine Spectrum and Fashion Island in Newport Beach, in addition to the Costa Mesa location on Newport Boulevard.

A new management and buying team had attempted to tweak the merchandising and price mix and said in April that they planned to keep the Costa Mesa location open.

Sargisian said today that they would not try to open in a new location.

Previous owner Billy Stade has not been involved for a while and is opening a new store at South Coast Plaza, one of the most upscale shopping centers in America, called Stade Co.
