Press release:
(OCTOBER 20, 2014) – October kicks off the 12th Annual West 49 Coats for Kids campaign an important program customers have come to expect. West 49 customers have consistently delivered strong community support by donating coats for kids who don’t have adequate winter clothing and after last winter’s wickedly cold and harsh winter, West 49 wants to help kids more than ever. Since 2002 more than 88,000 winter coats have been distributed as a result of this program. Each of the 65 West 49 stores across Canada donate coats to a local charitable organization to help families in their community.
According to a 2013 study, families with children represent the fastest-growing segment of Canada’s estimated 200,000 homeless. Across the country, 9,500 children under the age of 16 were staying in emergency shelters – a 50% increase since 2005.1
“Staying connected with the communities is a key value for West 49,” said Lisa Stuve, Marketing Manager, West 49. “Many children in our community face a cold winter in the school yards and skate parks dressed in clothing that does not keep them dry and warm and we are encouraging everyone to sift through their closets and donate a coat this year.”
West 49 Coats for Kids campaign begins on October 16th and runs through to November 19th. Coat collection barrels will be placed in each and every store. Everyone who brings in a clean, insulated, gently used winter coat to a West 49 store across Canada will receive $25 off any winter jacket $99 and up, including fashion jackets. Customers who spend more than $99 on outerwear will also receive a $25 Bonus Card that can be used towards a future purchase in December. Donated jackets will then be given to various youth shelters and charities across the country.
For twelve years West 49 has been collecting coats for kids who need to keep warm in the winter. West 49 is excited to have Burton sponsoring the program and campaign for the second year.
