SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., May 6, 2015 – The Enthusiast Network’s SURFER Magazine received a MAGGIE, considered to be the most prestigious award in publishing, from the Western Publishing Association (WPA) this weekend. The annual awards presentation, now in its 64th year, recognizes the year’s best editorial achievement in media.
SURFER earned the MAGGIE for “Best Special Theme Issue (Circ. over 75,000)” for its August issue, The Big Issue. The popular special-edition annual oversized issue focuses on a theme each year; the 2014 issue “Oceans Under Siege” featured stories on climate change and the harsh realities of surfing’s future.
“We’re thrilled to be honored with this award especially since the theme of the issue is about something as important as the environmental issues facing our oceans,” said Former Editor In Chief Brendon Thomas. “We feel that the health of our oceans is the most important challenge facing surfers and to be awarded a MAGGIE for our coverage of that topic means that we did our part well.”
Fellow TEN brands SURFER and POWDER also took home MAGGIE wins this year with BIKE, CANOE & KAYAK, SUP, SURFING and TRANSWORLD SNOWBOARDING honored as finalists.
