EssilorLuxottica Releases Details About Integration
Formed in 2018, EssilorLuxottica brought together two eyewear giants with nearly 150,000 employees and consolidated revenues of €16.2 billion.
It also meant brands such as Oakley, Ray Ban, Costa, a host of licensed brands and retailer Sunglass Hut are now under one corporate umbrella.
The company disclosed details today about how the integration is going ahead of an investors meeting in London.
First steps in the integration process include:
- The creation of a single supply chain and prescription laboratories network.
- The integration of Costa in the Luxottica brand portfolio and frame network.
- The introduction of a co-location model to systematically review headquarters locations for EssilorLuxottica.
- A pilot project in Italy to define a single IT platform to be quickly rolled out across the company’s organization.
From those and additional synergy projects, the company expects to save:
- €300 million to €350 million in 2019-2021
- €420 million to €600 million by 2022/2023
EssilorLuxottica said it also expects revenue in the long term to grow in the mid-single digits.
We are following up with Costa, which was owned by Essilor before the merger, to see what the integration mentioned above with Luxottica means for the brand.

Tom Campion to Co-Host Event for Democratic Presidential Hopeful
Zumiez Founder and Chairman Tom Campion, a major Democratic Party donor and fundraiser, is co-hosting an event for Democratic presidential primary candidate Amy Klobuchar, according to the Seattle Times.
Tom is hosting the event Monday along with Microsoft President Brad Smith.
Tom is no stranger to politics and advocacy and has even hosted President Obama at his home in the past. He and his wife, Sonya, have also been long-time activists on environmental and homelessness issues, and even founded their own nonprofit called Campion Advocacy Fund in addition to their longtime support of the Campion Foundation.
Tom has been advocating for these issues for years, but interestingly, Zumiez as a company does not highlight his political and advocacy work on climate and homelessness issues as companies such as Patagonia and Burton do with their efforts.
Patagonia Receives United Nations Award
Patagonia has been named a UN Champion of the Earth, receiving the UN’s top environmental honor for “a dynamic mix of policies that has put sustainability at the heart of its successful business model,” according to the UN.
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) recognized Patagonia in the entrepreneurial vision category.
“Through its commitment to sustainability and engagement with today’s most pressing environmental issues, Patagonia offers a perfect example of how the private sector can join the battle against climate change, biodiversity loss and other threats to human and planetary health,” said Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme.
“Patagonia shows that sustainability makes economic sense and the company’s success reveals a desire among consumers to see businesses take a leading role in tackling climate change and environmental degradation. Patagonia shows that it can be done, and done well,” she said.

World Surf League CMO Named A “Game Changing Marketing Leader” by Forbes
Pri Shumate made the list of 50 marketing leaders to watch by Forbes Magazine. The list is designed to recognize “leaders who are redefining the CMO role and who embody all that the role is becoming, can be and will be in the future.”
This is what Forbes wrote about Pri:
“Pri Shumate previously served as VP of brand marketing for global running at Nike, where she was focused on telling the stories of athletes, a priority for her now at World Surf League. At Nike, she also was the marketing lead for the Rio Olympic Games – great background for powering the marketing behind surfing’s debut at the 2020 Olympics.
“Meanwhile, a stint as CMO for Nike’s surf brand Hurley provided an incredible opportunity to learn about the surfing community from both the brand and industry side. Diving deeper into the consumer journey allowed Hurley to reset the strategy for the brand to focus on the next generation of consumers based on those insights.
“In her first ten weeks at WSL, she’s helped to sharpen the product marketing offering across WSL Events and WSL Studios and landed an Olympics plan to leverage what could be the biggest moment for the sport to date.”
Marketing executives from companies such as Sephora, Allbirds, Yeti, REI, Vita Coco, Vail Resorts, Stitch Fix and Carhartt are also on the list.

Moulin Owner Laurent Vrignaud, Randy Hild, Bob McKnight, Debbie Hild
Industry Vets Turn out for Moulin Party
SES saw a few familiar faces at the five-year anniversary party Wednesday night for Moulin, the French café in Newport Beach started by former Burton sales guru Laurent Vrignaud.
Quiksilver’s Bob McKnight and former Roxy executive Randy Hild, who now owns a marketing agency, were there. We also spotted Chris Bernard, also a former Burton super sales rep who now is the co-owner and CEO of Buff Bake, a healthy food company.
The switch from snowboarding to the restaurant industry has worked quite well for Laurent. Moulin has grown to three locations, with three more on the way, including one in Costa Mesa that is close to Vans headquarters, which debuts Oct. 1.
