Surf accessories brand Creatures of Leisure is extremely proud to announce three new signings to our global surf team.
In fantastic news for our West Australian-based brand we can reveal that American young gun Griffin Colapinto, French style merchant Joan Duru and Australian sensation Ethan Ewing are to join our stacked international squad, alongside world champions Mick Fanning and Stephanie Gilmore, world tour weapon Nat Young, free surfing standouts Mitch Coleborn and Jay Davies, and future stars Kai Hing and Taylor Clark.
In more great news for Creatures, with only a few Qualifying Series events remaining for the year, Duru and Ewing are on the cusp of graduating to the 2017 Championship Tour.
“This year has been a great one for me,” says Duru, from Bayonne in the south-west of France. “I started with a strong result at the Volcom Pipe Pro and kept my roll going. I came second in the Ballito QS 10,000 and then won a QS 1500 at home in France. Hopefully I can maintain my ranking to the end of the year and qualify for the CT! It’s a real honour for me to ride for such a core surf company, my surfing heroes when I was a kid were Creatures guys and hopefully I’ll soon get to join some of them on tour!”
Eighteen-year-old Ewing, who won a string of events in Australia to start the year, then shot to the limelight with a sizzling second place at the US Open in July, echoes Duru’s sentiments. “I can’t believe I ride for the same team as Mick and Steph!” grins the North Stradbroke Island product. “I’m really excited to sign with Creatures, and to be alongside a couple of world champs is incredible.”
The prospect of having his own signature range of traction certainly appeals to Ewing too. “It will be the first time I’ve ever got to design my own equipment, and I can’t wait to see how the process works. Hopefully I can come up with something people really like!”
America’s hottest young prospect, 18-year-old Colapinto, rounds out the three additions to the team that will take Creatures of Leisure into the future. “I’m super excited about signing with Creatures,” says Colapinto, “and even more thrilled that they asked me to design my own pad, it’s pretty much a dream come true! Keep an eye out for it dropping in 2017. I can’t wait to see it in the water, it would be so cool to think that groms might want to run my pad!”
Creatures of Leisure couldn’t be more excited to welcome our new signings to the team, and wish them all the best as they represent themselves and our brand in achieving all of their goals and dreams, this year and beyond!
