This past Saturday, the world’s top professional surfers joined pro surfer Nate Yeomans and the San Clemente Shorecliffs Middle School surf team for the 5th annual Fish Bowl Classic at Riviera Beach, San Clemente.
The Fish Bowl Classic pairs one local grom with a professional surfer who competes as a team. Nate Yeomans, a San Clemente-based professional surfer, organizes the event each year to give this unique opportunity to the local upcoming talent. Local and visiting pros (many in town for the WSL Trestles Hurley Pro event) are happy to give back to the San Clemente community through their participation in the event. Professional surfers who participated in the event include: Kolohe Andino, Tanner Gudauskas, Pat Gudauskas, Dane Gudauskas, Brett Simpson, Keanu Asing, Ryan Callahan, Yadin Nicol, Nate Yeomans, Sebastian Zeitz, Eric Geiselman, and more
This year’s overall winners were local pro Kevin Shultz and his teammate (back-to-back ’15/’16 Fish Bowl Classic winner), Hagan Johnson. Hagan Johnson went home with a new …Lost surfboard and runner-up finalists were awarded a prize pack provided by sponsors including …Lost Enterprises, Bonzai Bowls, Buell Wetsuits, Wax Trak , Hoven Sunglasses, Beech Towels, and Cobian Footwear.
The event concluded with an “End of Summer Bash” after-party at the OC Tavern in San Clemente. Fish Bowl Classic contestants were presented with awards followed by live music by local bands including Tunnel Vision, Perro Bravo, Cholulas, After School Special, Deep Water, and Gary Roach’s Stones Revue.
“Cheer’s to the best Fish Bowl Classic yet!” said Yeomans via social media. “Thank you everyone who was involved to make this event happen. Thank you to all the pro’s that came down and bless the kids in San Clemente.”
