Published: June 8, 2021 Press Release

Today Street League Skateboarding (SLS), the world’s preeminent professional skateboarding series for over a decade, announced the return of its flagship competition tour. Following skate’s Olympic debut in Tokyo, Street League is once again primed to push progression while going back to its roots. Reframed as the SLS Championship Tour, the League is returning to its original roster size, with a hand-selected field of the world’s best skaters and the biggest personalities in street skateboarding. This elite group of men and women will battle it out in three events over the course of four months, all for a chance to top the podium at the pinnacle of competitive street skateboarding, the Super Crown World Championship.

The 2021 SLS Championship Tour will kick off in Salt Lake City, Utah on the weekend of August 28th followed by a Miami, Florida stop on the weekend of October 30th. The Tour will finish with the SLS Super Crown World Championship, taking place in Jacksonville, Florida the weekend of November 13th. Look for more venue and event details, including how fans can purchase tickets to witness skateboarding history in the making, coming soon.

In addition to raising the stakes with the return of its reduced roster size, SLS will update its contest format, simplifying the competition to create more urgency and excitement for skaters and fans alike. More details on this will be announced as well.

New blood will also have an opportunity to join the top ranks. In July, SLS will host a pre-season invitational Tour Qualifier at Paul “P-Rod” Rodriguez’s Primitive Skatepark, the first contest to be held at the skateboarding icon’s new private facility. A chance to earn a spot on the 2021 SLS Championship Tour roster and go up against SLS’ invited Pros will be up for grabs.

Following a press conference to break the news, Rodriguez remarked about Street League’s new chapter. “It’s exciting to see SLS reconnect with the vibe and the energy that made it the biggest championship in skateboarding. From the beginning, SLS is where the best skateboarders in the world set the standard.”

Joe Carr, CEO of Thrill One Sports and Entertainment – SLS’ parent company, spoke to the impact of the tour’s return. “We are thrilled to relaunch Street League with a renewed focus on what made it the gold standard for street skateboarding: the caliber of the skaters and the most exciting format in the sport. Coming off of the Olympics, the interest around skate and our Pros will be at an all-time high.” Carr added, “While being sidelined for the last sixteen months has certainly been challenging for the entire action sports industry, it offered an opportunity for the Street League team to reimagine the Tour. The reaction from the skate community has been very positive, skaters are eager to compete and we can’t wait for fans to have the opportunity to check it out.”

Both the SLS Championship Tour’s intense action and its compelling behind-scenes storylines are celebrated on SLS’ social channels, which are among the Top 20 for digital engagement across global sports properties. The brand also amplifies its social presence with live broadcast and highlights coverage on major digital and linear platforms enjoyed by millions of fans worldwide.

Collaborating with blue-chip companies such as Monster Energy, a partner since the League’s founding, and core endemic brands like NHS, SLS creates custom designed skate plazas at venues around the world, challenging top pros and up-and-coming talents to innovate and take skateboarding to new heights. These best-in-class live event experiences offer an exciting and accessible entertainment experience for millions of fans, both those watching from more than 140 countries world-wide as well as the thousands of thrilled fans experiencing the high-energy excitement live in-person.
