Surfline Sessions: No Filmer Necessary

Surfing memories are captured like never before in Surfline’s iOS app.
Published: July 31, 2019 Press Release

Today, Surfline announced the release of Surfline Sessions, a new way for surfers to track their sessions and receive video footage of their rides from over 500 company-owned cameras around the world. Surfline Sessions is available on Surfline’s iOS app for surfers who wear an Apple Watch.

Here’s how it works: A surfer connects their Apple Watch to their account in the Surfline app and heads to the beach. The surfer presses “Start” on the watch before paddling out. After surfing for as long as they wish in front of any Surfline camera, the surfer presses “Stop” on the way in. Their rides will be delivered to the Surfline app by the time they get to their phone.

“Surfing is beautifully fleeting, which is in part why photos and video have played such a huge role in the culture,” Ross Garrett, Surfline President explains. “Preserving little bits of that experience — in whatever form — is magical, and to do so effortlessly is going to be a huge benefit to surfers everywhere.”

Surfline Sessions also provides GPS-driven insights including number of waves ridden, top speed attained and the length of your longest ride – in both feet and seconds.

Author, speaker and technology leader Guy Kawasaki calls Surfline Sessions, “the killer app for the Apple Watch,” and Surfline’s pro-surfer test team is raving as well.

“Surfline Sessions is a great idea and new concept for anyone who enjoys reviewing/posting their clips after a surf,” explains Hawaiian surf pro and Surfline Sessions beta tester, Nathan Florence. “Especially for those who don’t have the resources to pay a personal filmer full time, you can enjoy easy access to your waves from any Surfline cam location.”

Surfline Sessions is launching today in partnership with Urban Armor Gear, maker of the UAG Apple Watch Strap, designed and built to keep your watch safe in the surf zone.

Additionally, surfers can use Surfline Compatible Apple Watch App Dawn Patrol to link their account and use the application to create videos and data in Surfline. Rip Curl’s GPS is also Surfline Compatible and will be available soon. More device and application partners will be announced throughout the year.
